What is a Brokerage Calculator?
A brokerage calculator is a free online tool that estimates the total cost of a trade before you place it.
You enter your buy price, sell price, quantity, and the segment you are trading. The calculator works out the brokerage along with every statutory charge — STT, exchange transaction charges, SEBI fees, GST, stamp duty, and DP charges — so you can see your true net profit or loss, not just the difference between your buy and sell prices.
The Chola Securities brokerage calculator covers equity delivery, equity intraday, futures, and options. It shows a full charge breakdown, your net P&L, and your breakeven point — how far the price needs to move just to cover your costs.
What Charges Apply to a Trade?
The difference between your buy and sell price is only part of the story. Every trade also carries the following charges:
| Charge | What it is |
| Brokerage | The fee charged by the broker per executed order |
| STT / CTT | Securities Transaction Tax levied by the government on trade value |
| Exchange transaction charges | Levied by NSE or BSE on total turnover |
| SEBI turnover fees | Regulator fee of ₹10 per crore of turnover |
| GST | 18% charged on brokerage plus exchange and SEBI charges |
| Stamp duty | A state levy charged on the buy side of a trade |
| DP charges | A flat depository fee on delivery sells (~₹18.25 + GST per scrip) |
Net P&L = (Sell value − Buy value) − Total charges
How Does the Brokerage Calculator Work?
The calculator applies the standard charge rates for each segment to your trade inputs and sums the result.
- Equity delivery: Brokerage is ₹20 or 0.1% of order value, whichever is lower, charged on both buy and sell. STT is 0.1% on both legs. Stamp duty is 0.015% on the buy side. A DP charge applies on the sell side.
- Equity intraday: Brokerage is ₹20 or 0.05% of order value, whichever is lower, charged on both legs. STT is 0.025% on the sell side only. Stamp duty is 0.003% on the buy side. No DP charge applies.
- Futures: A flat ₹20 brokerage per order on both legs. STT is 0.02% on the sell side. Stamp duty is 0.002% on the buy side.
- Options: A flat ₹20 brokerage per order. STT is 0.1% on the sell-side premium. Stamp duty is 0.003% on the buy side.
GST at 18% is applied on the brokerage plus exchange transaction charges and SEBI fees across all segments.
Worked example: Buy 100 shares of a stock at ₹500 and sell at ₹520 in an equity intraday trade. Gross profit = ₹2,000. Brokerage on buy = ₹20 (flat, since 0.05% of ₹50,000 = ₹25, so ₹20 is lower). Brokerage on sell = ₹20. STT on sell = 0.025% of ₹52,000 = ₹13. Exchange charges, SEBI fees, GST and stamp duty add a further small amount. Total charges are approximately ₹70 to ₹80. Net P&L = ₹2,000 − ~₹75 ≈ ₹1,925.
Note: these are indicative estimates based on standard rates as of 2026. Actual charges may vary slightly by exchange and broker. Always verify your contract note for exact figures. This is not investment advice.
How do I use Chola Securities' Brokerage Calculator?
Using the calculator takes four steps.
- Choose your segment — equity delivery, equity intraday, futures, or options.
- Enter the buy price and sell price per share or unit.
- Enter the quantity — for F&O, enter total units (lots multiplied by lot size).
- Instantly see your total charges, full charge breakdown, net P&L, and breakeven point.
Switch segments at any time to compare how the same trade is costed differently across delivery, intraday, and derivatives.
Why Trading Costs Matter
- On small or frequent trades, total charges can quietly consume a significant share of your gross profit.
- The breakeven figure shows exactly how far the price must move before you are in profit after costs.
- Intraday and F&O trades attract lower STT than delivery, but frequent trading multiplies fixed charges.
- Knowing your costs before you trade helps you set realistic target and stop-loss levels.
