Frequently asked questions about mutual fund investing

You can invest in mutual funds through the Chola Securities app or web platform. Open a demat account, complete your KYC, and then choose a SIP, lumpsum, or NFO. The entire process is paperless. You can start a SIP from as little as Rs 500 per month, browse over 5,000 schemes across Debt, Equity and Hybrid categories, and track all your holdings in one dashboard.
You can start a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) with Chola Securities from as little as Rs 500 per month. A SIP lets you invest a fixed amount at regular intervals, which spreads your investment across market cycles. You can increase the amount over time or add an annual step-up to grow your contribution as your income rises.
Chola Securities offers schemes across three main categories. Debt funds include Liquid, Money Market, Short Duration, Corporate Bond, Gilt and Credit Risk funds. Equity funds include Large Cap, Mid Cap, Small Cap, Flexi Cap, Multi Cap and ELSS tax saver funds. Hybrid funds include Arbitrage, Aggressive Hybrid, Balanced Advantage and Multi Asset funds. In total, over 5,000 schemes are available.
A SIP invests a fixed amount at regular intervals, which averages your purchase cost across market highs and lows and suits steady monthly saving. A lumpsum invests a single larger amount at one time and suits investors who have a sizeable sum ready to deploy. Chola Securities supports both, and the on-page calculator lets you project returns for each.
An NFO is the first subscription offering for a new mutual fund scheme, similar to how an IPO works for shares. During the NFO window, you can invest in the scheme at its initial offer before it opens for regular transactions. Chola Securities lists active NFOs with their risk level, launch date and closing date, so you can review and apply before the window closes.
A Direct plan is purchased directly from the fund house with no distributor commission, which gives it a lower expense ratio and slightly higher long-term returns. A Regular plan includes a distributor commission built into its expense ratio. All mutual fund schemes listed on the Chola Securities mutual funds page are Direct plans.
Taxation depends on the type of fund and how long you hold it. Equity funds and debt funds are taxed differently, and short-term and long-term holdings attract different rates. Capital gains tax rules are set by the government and are subject to change. Investors should consult a qualified tax advisor for guidance specific to their situation before making investment decisions.
Yes. The Chola Securities app shows your full portfolio, including equities, MTF, IPO and mutual funds, in a single dashboard. You can place SIP, lumpsum, switch or stop instructions on the go, monitor returns across all holdings, and manage your investments without paperwork.
